Donate Used Books and Other Materials

We are happy to accept gently used donated books, CD, DVDs, and audio books. Before you donate, please make sure there are no torn or missing covers or pages, and that the items are not water damaged. We also can’t accept text books over 10 years old.

You can turn in donated books at the front desk to the attention of Janie Downey Maxwell.

What do we do with your donated books?

  • We check to see if we need a copy of the book for our shelves. If we do, we catalog it and add it.
  • If we don’t need the item, we add it to our Free Book Shelves (in the cubby to the left of the front doors as you enter the library). These items are available to all patrons. Take a look!
  • If items are not picked up in the Free Book area after a couple of weeks, we ship them to Better World Books (BWB). BWBs sells books online, and distributes them to needy countries around the world.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Janie Downey Maxwell at jdowneymaxwell@thomas.lib.me.us, or call at 799-1720 x285.

Thank you!
