  • American Book Awards: Encourages diversity in American writing by recognizing contemporary American authors, without restriction to race, sex, ethnic background or genre.

    Black Caucus of the ALA Literary Awards: Recognizes outstanding works of fiction and non-fiction by African American authors.

    Booker Prize: The Man Booker International Prize is awarded every two years to a living author who has published a work of fiction in the English language.

    Bread Loaf Bakeless Prize: Given by the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference of Middlebury College in support of emerging writers.

    Costa Book Awards: One of the most prestigious and popular literary prizes in the United Kingdom recognizing "some of the most enjoyable books of the year by writers based in the UK and Ireland."

    Governor General's Literary Awards: Recognizes books by Canadians regardless of where they were published.

    Guardian First Book Award: Established in 1999 to reward the finest new literary talent.

    International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award: An award recognizing the year's most outstanding book published in any language; administered by Dublin City Public Libraries and sponsored by Dublin City Council, the Municipal Government of Dublin City, and IMPAC, a productivity improvement company.

    Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize: Annual award recognising "outstanding books about the Pacific Rim and South Asia that encourage greater mutual understanding of and among the peoples and nations of this vast and culturally diverse region."

    Lambda Literary Awards: Also known as the "Lammys," this award recognizes excellence in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered literature.

    Lannan Literary Awards: Recognizing writers who have made significant contributions to English-language literature, sponsored by the Lannan Foundation, a private family foundation dedicated to promoting cultural freedom, diversity and creativity.

    Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize: Recognizes the most outstanding book of poetry published in the United States in the previous year; administered by the Academy of American Poets and The Nation magazine.

    National Book Award: Presented annually in the United States by the National Book Foundation to recognize achievements in fiction, non-fiction, poetry,and young people's literature.

    National Book Critics Circle Award: Honors the finest books and reviews published in English each year.

    PEN/Faulkner Award: Recognizes an outstanding fiction book selected by judges who are themselves fiction writers; administered by PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists.)

    PEN New England/Hemingway Award: An award for a novel or book of short stories by an American author who has not previously published a book of fiction; administered by the New England division of PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists.)

    PEN New England/L. L. Winship Award: Given annually to a New England author or a book with a New England setting. ; administered by the New England division of PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists.)

    Pulitzer Prizes: Recognizing the best in journalism, letters, drama and music.

    Thurber Prize: Named for humorist James Thurber, this annual award recognizes the best in humor writing.

    Betty Trask Award: Recognizes a first novel by a citizen of the United Kingdom under the age of 35; named for Betty Trask, the author of more than 30 romance novels.

    Walt Whitman Award: Encourages the work of emerging poets by enabling the publication of a poet's first book.
