Downloadable Audiobooks

Maine InfoNet Download LibraryDownloadable Audiobooks!

Thomas Memorial Library is a member of the Maine InfoNet Download Library, a service which allows hundreds of audiobooks to be downloaded directly to your home computer and transferred to an MP3 player-- some may even be burned to a CD. All you need to use the service is:

  1. Your library card number
  2. Internet access
  3. OverDrive Media Console, free software which can be downloaded from the Maine InfoNet Download Library.

A Quick Start Guide is available to help users with everything from browsing the collection to downloading your selection to burning your audiobook to a CD. The Download Library offers two formats:

  • WMA (Windows Media Audiobooks) format: Titles using this format work only with PC based machines and Windows Media compatible players and devices. These titles will work on an Apple device, such as an iPod, but only if you are using a Windows-based computer (not a Mac.)
  • MP3 format: Titles using this format are compatible with most cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players, including iPods. These titles will work with Apple devices, such as iPods, as well as other devices even if you are using a Mac.

Not all titles are available in both formats. Icons below each title indicate which devices and operating systems are compatible with any given title. For example, the icons below indicate that a title can be burned to a CD, it is in the WMA format, and will work with an iPod as long as you are using a PC (note that the Mac and MP3 icons are grayed out.)

You will see a set of icons like this below each title, which will give you a quick visual indication of how any given title can be used.

The Maine InfoNet Download Library is supported by its member libraries. The content has been selected by a committee of librarians throughout the state. Each patron may have a maximum of 2 titles checked out from the Digital Library at any one time. Downloaded titles are checked out for seven days and automatically expire after the seven day period ends. For more details, or to get started, visit the Maine InfoNet Download Library page.
