Local Ecologist Will Present Program on Maine’s Baby Harbor Seals
There’s nothing sweeter than a baby harbor seal, but what do you do if you see one on shore? On Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m., Erika Rhile, ecologist and marine mammal rescuer will share photographs and stories about animals she has responded to in Cape Elizabeth.
Rhile, a Cape Elizabeth resident, is the chair of the Science Department at Cheverus High School, and has been a marine mammal rescue and rehab volunteer since 2002. She is also a Marine Ecologist with the University of Pennsylvania, and spends her summers working with University’s program on Swan’s Island.
In addition to a slideshow presentation, Rhile will have on hand seal and whale skulls and other bones, beach signs, and give-aways for kids and adults, including stickers, keychains, and magnets. The program is appropriate for adults as well as families with children.
