This summer we are introducing a new Summer Reading theme, Building a Better World, that we plan to continue expanding on in the coming years. We hope to not only promote reading for all ages, but also to encourage activities and provide incentives that make our world a better place to live for people, wildlife, and the environment.
This year’s summer reading programs will feature a different bingo card for each age group. Activities on the cards will include different reading experiences, and different ways to connect with the world and our community.
Early Literacy Program (Ages 0-3)
The pre-reader summer reading program runs from June 16 – August 23, and ALL ages can participate! Pick up a bingo card at the children’s desk and complete family-friendly challenges with your little one to fill their bingo card. Fill all 16 spaces to win a board book and a chance to win a special grand prize! Pre-readers and families can complete as many bingo cards as they like for more chances to win the grand prize. One board book per participant.
Children’s Program (Ages 4-11)
The children’s summer reading program runs from June 16 – August 23. Pick up a bingo card at the children’s desk and complete the challenges to earn beads*. 1 bingo space = 1 bead earned. Finish your bingo card and fill all 16 spaces to get a special pendant of your choosing! You will also be entered in a raffle to win the grand prize. Complete as many bingo cards as you like for more beads and more chances to win our grand prize!
Tween/Teen Program (Ages 12-17)
The tween/teen summer reading program runs from June 16 – August 23. Pick up a bingo card downstairs and complete all 16 challenges to fill your card. A completed card gives you a chance to win one of three gift cards to some of our favorite local businesses, and entry into a raffle for our teen grand prize. Complete as many bingo cards as you like for more chances to win gift cards and the grand prize! Teens can also choose to participate in the read and bead* program.
Adult Program
The adult summer reading program runs from June 16 – August 9. Pick up a challenge card from the main circulation desk and get started on your journey to claim up to 20 raffle tickets! Each completed challenge is worth one ticket for the prize bundle of your choice–stack your chances for your favorite bundle, or take a risk and play for them all. Each of the four grand prizes includes a nonfiction book, a fiction book, a small piece of art, and a gift card to one of our favorite local businesses. Bonus tickets may be awarded for completing the entire challenge card. Surprise raffles may be spontaneously drawn throughout the program giving away more gift cards to local businesses including Cia Cafe, C-Salt, Rosemont, Broadway Gardens, Terracotta Pasta, and more!
