Changes Coming to Kanopy in July, 2026
After a hugely successful 1-year trial of everything Kanopy has to offer, TML’s subscription will be shifting slightly starting on July 1.
The one-year trial period was part of Kanopy’s special program for smaller libraries–for one low price, we could give TML cardholders access to everything. The intent of the program is to give time for smaller libraries to analyze user data and feedback to make strategic choices about which categories of content to offer going forward while still staying within budget.
Based on data analytics and anecdotal insight, we will now be offering unlimited access to the three content categories our patrons watched most. In order to expand access beyond those categories, we will also offer each TML cardholder 5 tickets per month to watch anything from Kanopy’s entire catalogue.
The 3 most popular categories which patrons will soon have unlimited access to are:
BRITISH FILM & TELEVISION – A unique blend of intriguing mysteries, addictive dramas, and big-hearted comedies for your Anglophile patrons who relish proper British movies and TV series.
WORLD CINEMA – A selection of international films that span various cultures, this Pack unlocks recent theatrical hits and critically acclaimed classics from various genres to your patrons.
KANOPY KIDS – Packed with over 2,000 titles, featuring popular children’s favorites and read-along storybooks by Vooks, Highlights, and Signed Stories.
Whether you’re looking for documentary, classic, indie, horror, instructional, family friendly, or otherwise completely unique and unclassifiable film, you will always have 5 tickets per month to explore beyond the unlimited options within the British, World, and Kanopy Kids collections.
How It Works
Login to the platform with your TML card. From there, you’ll be prompted to create a free account.
Once you are logged in, you will see two icons in the top righthand corner of your screen next to your login name, one for Kanopy Kids, one that shows a ticket stub with a number. The number indicates how many tickets you have for the current month. Movies and TV shows that display a “cost” of a certain number of tickets are those that fall outside of our unlimited categories. Every TML cardholder has 5 tickets to use per month. At the beginning of each month, the number of tickets will reset to 5. (If a movie or series does not display a ticket number, it is part of our unlimited collections and will not “cost” you any tickets to watch it.)
