From Ashes to Beauty: The Transformation of Frederick Ndabaramiye and the Healing Power of Art

Thursday, February 22 -- 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

FREDERICK NDABARAMIYEThe Rwandan Genocide changed the lives of the Rwandan people in unimaginable ways. Frederick Ndabaramiye was only one of many people who experienced tragic trauma and loss during this time, but his story is uniquely his own. The loss of both hands to a machete blade was intended to take his life, but instead led to a life of unimaginable possibilities.

Throughout his extremely difficult journey, the loss of his hands required Frederick to begin his life again and to re-learn all of the things that had once been so easy for him. When first re-learning to hold a pencil with both arms, Frederick drew a butterfly, which became the springboard that began his love of painting.

Now an accomplished artist, Frederick has shared his artwork around the world, most recently in our own Stier Family Art Gallery. Join us as we welcome Frederick Ndabaramiye, Rwandan artist, speaker, and author to TML, where he will share his incredible and inspirational story with us. In addition to his artwork, Frederick is co-founder of the Ubumwe Community Center, a school and community center in Gisenyi, Rwanda, which provides children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to receive educational and vocational services. Once you’ve met him, you won’t soon forget Frederick and his amazing life story. All are welcome!

Please register by filling out the form below so we can send you a reminder. (This is an in-person event, but we may also be able to offer this event simultaneously via Zoom.)
