On a tiny, remote island in the Gulf of Maine, student researchers make science history watching whales.

Since its beginning, Allied Whale has been at the forefront of modern whale research and is recognized as a leader in the development of techniques used by whale biologists world-wide. Join student interns from Allied Whale, the marine mammal research group out of the College of the Atlantic, for a fascinating presentation about the marine mammals of Maine and the important and innovative work of this organization.

This program is for anyone interested in Maine’s marine life–especially students considering marine biology as a career!

Attendees will have a chance to win some Allied Whale merch!

Thomas Memorial Library received a grant from HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, producer of the new IMAX film, Blue Whales: Return of the Giants, and the STAR Library Network, in partnership with the California Science Center and SK Films. This program is part of that grant.

Find out more about our Blue Whale project, and the programs and resources made possible by the grant!
