My Climate Future: A Conversation

December 28, 2023 -- 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

“My Climate Future,” the photography exhibit currently on display in the library’s Stier Family Gallery aims to amplify the views of those not often included in the national conversation around climate change. For this exhibit, four Cape Elizabeth High School students ventured out into Cape with their smartphone cameras in April, taking shots of the salt marsh behind the school, Willard Beach, Hobstone Woods, and other locales, imaging what the future holds in store. The project was a partnership with local nonprofit Seeing for Ourselves, whose mission lies in equipping and training marginalized individuals to take control of their own public narrative by documenting their lives photographically. You can view the exhibit at the library throughout the end of January, and on December 28th, join us on Zoom as we dive deeper into “My Climate Future.” An officer from Seeing for Ourselves will share the global models inspiring the current initiative, discuss where the program goes from here, and screen a work-in-progress clip from the documentary film to accompany the full-scale program in the 2024-25 school year. We’ll also be joined by the student photographers, who will lead a discussion about what young people in Cape think of our changing world and what we need to do about it. This program will take place via Zoom. All are welcome!
