The library’s annual summer reading programs will begin on June 17 for kids and tweens, and July 1 for teens and adults. This year’s theme is “Into the Woods: A Reading Adventure.”

The children’s program is once again the very popular Read & Bead Challenge, in which kids keep track of the time they spend reading (or being read to) and earn beads and brag tags as they make their way through a woodland landscape.

Adults and teens will receive a reading bingo card and earn tickets to win a number of nature-themed prizes.

Ages 3 and up
Most kids will enjoy participating in our popular Read & Bead Challenge. When they register, kids receive a necklace chain, a starter brag tag, reading log. For every ten minutes that kids read (or listen to someone reading aloud) they color in a circle on their log. When they reach a checkpoint on the log, they come in to receive beads for their necklace. By the end of the summer, kids will have a visual record on their necklace to show much time they spent reading! Every time a child finishes a reading log, they receive a ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing, as well as a ticket for a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. The more they read, the more chances they have to win prizes!

Ages 2 – 3
Little ones can adopt a woodland animal to cuddle with when listening to stories. When they register, they will receive a surprise woodland animal to take home and take care of–the more these adorable plush animals listen to stories, the happier they will be!

Babies
Even babies can participate in summer reading! Parents or caregivers can register to receive a bingo card with early literacy activities they can do with their babies to support brain development and bond with their baby. When they complete five activities, they will receive a woodland-themed book for their baby to keep!
