A Breath of Life documentary film screening and discussion

July 18, 2023 -- 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for this special virtual screening of the Italian documentary film A Breath of Life. The film tells the story of Lucy, a 95-year-old survivor of the Dachau concentration camp, and the oldest living trans woman in Italy. Despite her age, Lucy is still lucid, sassy and always ready with a comeback. Her life offers the opportunity to reflect on gender identity and a host of other vibrant, ongoing debates. The film retraces the phases of Lucy’s life: from an abused child to a homosexual boy and a transvestite, from a rudimentary hormone therapy to gender reassignment surgery. Lucy’s story represents the history of the 1900s. Her stormy life events are a metaphor for a humanity that does not give up and that treasures memory as the most important gift of history and an invaluable starting point for understanding. We’ll be joined by special guests following the screening for a brief panel discussion and Q&A about the film, our local trans community, and current issues facing trans people in ME. All are welcome!

This program will be taking place only on Zoom. If you plan on attending, please register below so that we can send you a reminder and a Zoom link to join us on the day of the event.
